Between them, Colin and Joe know professional audio from both sides: servicing the equipment, and working directly with the manufacturers and distributors behind it.
Colin's career in professional audio goes back to 1980, when he started as an apprentice with Sennheiser's South African distributor. Five years later he co-founded Sennheiser South Africa, before moving to Montreal in 1989 to run the Pro Division for TC Electronics, Sennheiser's Canadian distributor. That operation became Sennheiser Canada in 1995.
His career has put him behind some landmark wireless deployments, including commissioning and support for the 24-channel Sennheiser system used by The Phantom of the Opera during its record-setting 1989–1999 Toronto run. More recently, he initiated and now supports the move of London's West End production of Harry Potter to the Lectrosonics DSSM waterproof transmitter, which the lead performers rely on in a critical immersed underwater scene. Another recent project is a 24-channel Lectrosonics system for Cirque du Soleil's new dinner theatre production Ludo in Mexico.
In 2006, he turned his attention to Lectrosonics, working with the U.S. team to establish a dedicated Canadian RF bench service and support operation. Twenty years later, he brings that history and more than four decades in professional audio to his work as founder of Transmission Arts Engineering.
Joe got his start in professional audio the old-fashioned way: on the road. At 18 he was already touring as a FOH mixer, beginning a career that would span more than four decades of pro audio service, installation and RF work.
Along the way, Joe has provided factory-authorized service for everything from consoles and amplifiers to speakers, wireless microphones, communications systems and IEMs. He has installed equipment in recording studios and theatres, and provided frequency coordination and RF consultation for film, television and broadcast customers.
Joe and Colin first worked together in 1996, when Joe joined him on the Canadian and U.S. tour of Showboat as an RF tech supporting its 48-channel Sennheiser EM 1046 system. A decade later, Joe became Senior RF Tech for Lectrosonics Canada, a role he held for twenty years before joining Transmission Arts Engineering in March 2026.
